What Brown saw: “I have Web [cornerback Corey Webster], who’s the Cover 2 corner. He doesn’t have anything in the flat, so he can stay onto the No. 1 receiver a little bit longer. [Linebacker Michael] Boley is my hook dropper underneath No. 2. So as the Cover 2 safety, I’m reading both these [receivers] and I’m looking and see Brees – it just happened so quick. It happened so quick to talk about it. So whenever I’m back here in Cover 2, you want to make sure you have a good amount of depth so you can be able to break either way because there are two receivers that are going to be your threat, threatening your zone.”

Intended for TE Jimmy Graham: “Since he threw it to Graham — with him being like 6-6 or so, a basketball player, he can jump pretty high – the ball is usually thrown up there for him to get him and only him to get it. So I wanted to be able to make sure I came around him to pick off the ball without colliding into him.”

Eli Manning took the day to help out with the BGC Partners and Cantor Fitzgerald annual Charity Day in New York, which raised approximately $12 million this year to help families of 9/11 as well as provide aid to victims of terrorism, natural disaster and emergencies.

“That’s why today is such a special day,” Manning said on WFAN’s Boomer & Carton Morning Show, the broadcast of which originated from yesterday’s event. “So many different charities are affected and helped out. Obviously on the anniversary of 9/11, a terrible event, and how they’ve turned something positive with this day is really special.

“I was in college [when it happened]. I woke up to a radio and they were talking about it and I turned on the TV. The one plane had already crashed and I saw as the second one came in. You can’t imagine it ever happening. You kind of felt like you were watching a movie, like it wasn’t real. You’re like no way is this really happening. I still remember the day. Obviously I wasn’t in New York at the time, I was still in college, but it affected everybody and obviously it was an attack on our country. It was a terrible day, but how they’ve turned this into a charity, taking some positive out of it, is special. A lot of the people affected on that day are being helped today, so that’s a great cause.”

BACK TO FOOTBALL

Meanwhile, Giants players made 14 appearances around the tri-state community — including West Point, Riverside Firehouse, and the New Rochelle Fire Department – to celebrate “Back to Football” and thank community leaders for their service.

Now that it’s over, DE Justin Tuck was asked about the mood coming off this preseason.

“It’s been a fun preseason; it’s been a different preseason.  I’m excited to see who we’re going to have on this football team because those guys made our coaching staff, and Jerry Reese and his staff’s decisions pretty difficult.  Heading into the regular season, I’m excited about it, I’m ready to get going, and we start off with the Dallas Cowboys and that’s going to be very exciting.”

Corneback Jayron Hosley updated his injury status (toe) and talked about his chances of playing against Dallas.

“I’m taking it day-by-day.  Right now I’m feeling pretty confident that I’ll be ready, and the trainers have been doing a great job with me.  The trainers have been doing a great job of getting me ready, getting me prepared to get back on the field as soon as possible.  I’m feeling pretty confident about playing against Dallas.”

On and off practice squads his whole career, RB Andre Brown put together a solid performance in the final preseason game on Wednesday with 14 carries for 55 yards and two catches for 22. He’s been through this routine before as the roster will be finalized to 53 on Friday.

“A bad expert. I feel more comfortable though. I feel that other than the one fumble that I had, I feel as though I put a solid game together. I’m sure I’m capable of playing in the league. I know I’m going to be here or if it’s not here, I’m going to be somewhere and I know that I still believe that it’s going to be my year.”

CB Prince Amukara updated his ankle injury.

“Yeah, I’m out of the walking boot.  I’ve been rehabbing, walking better, and it feels a lot better than it did last week.  It’s only been six days, so we’re still taking it day-by-day.”

Meanwhile, DE Adewale Ojomo has relished the competitive environment on the defensive line.

“It’s been a great environment. It’s a process. It doesn’t just happen overnight. People don’t see what goes into it. Listening, adjusting and Osi and those guys and Coach Robert Nunn, so it’s just a lot of work. I wasn’t just going to come here because my senior year in college, I had one and a half sacks. Coming in here learning from those guys made a big improvement.”

Also trying to make the roster, WR David Douglas feels like he belongs in the NFL after an impressive training camp and preseason.

“I think so. I just took it day by day from the first day I got out here and that’s really all you can do coming in as a free agent and a rookie trying to make a team. I felt like I came out and I gave it my all every day and that’s really all you can do.”

LB Mathias Kiwanuka spoke about Keith Rivers’ ability to step into a new defense this year:

“This is not an easy system to pick up but he came in… He dedicated himself. Now what we do out there in preseason, it’s usually very vanilla. Him going through practices and picking up stuff and being moved from one side to the other and being able to just go out there and just his general attitude… add that to his athletic ability; he’s a pretty good linebacker.”

Coming off a victory over the Jets, CB Prince Amukamara preps for his next game:

“I thought my physical play was great. I thought it was pretty aggressive. I didn’t see a lot of action, but I’ll probably see a lot of action this week. There are a couple of things that I can improve on that my coach pointed out to me. I’ve been focusing on that at practice.”

In two weeks, CB Corey Webster will begin his eighth season in the NFL. And who better to kick it off against than the Cowboys?

“It’s nothing you have to get up for. It’s a big rivalry game, Dallas against the Giants. We want to kick the season off the right way, so I think everyone will be up for that challenge. I think the New York Giants will be up for it, I know the Dallas Cowboys will be up for it, and I think it’ll be a good game.”

As he battles a toe injury, CB Jayron Hosley, who had a 77-yard interception return for a touchdown last week, assessed where he is within the system:

“Definitely some improvement from last week to the Jets game. Just knowing where I’m supposed to be. I’m lining up my assignments and techniques got better overall. With making that kind of play, I think that kind of made things a little better. I think it was a pretty good… Not too many plays but I made it count when I got the chance.”
