QUOTABLES

“Anytime you’re playing a division team, there’s huge implications.  The later it gets in the season when the playoff picture is starting to play out, things become more meaningful.  It’s definitely a game you knew, especially the last few weeks with them still having the division lead, as of last night it was a big game for us.  It’s a game you want to go out and play well in.  It’s a game you try and go out and win.” -LB Jon Beason

QUOTABLES

“Every game is a must-win game for us so that’s going to be our mentality – win at all costs. Not every win is going to be the way you expected it to be, not every battle is going to be the way you expected it to be, but you just have to go out there and win at any costs.” -S Antrel Rolle

AROUND THE NFC EAST: WEEK 6

The Giants are currently in fourth place in the NFC East with an 0-6 record. The team trails Dallas and Philadelphia by 3.5 games and is one game behind Washington. Here’s a look at how the NFC East preformed in Week 6:

COWBOYS (3-3)

» Division standing: 1st

» Week 6 result: 31-16 victory over the Redskins (HIGHLIGHTS)

» Stat leaders: QB Tony Romo – 176 passing yards, one touchdown and an interception, RB DeMarco Murray – seven carries for 29 yards and a touchdown, LB Sean Lee – 10 tackles.

» Comments: “I sure am (happy the way) the defense responded tonight. That front, I was concerned in the fourth quarter about them tiring and not (being able) to get a lot of substitutions in there (but) they gutted it up. They didn’t tire and they really just kept coming. Rod (Marinelli) obviously had gotten them really motivated and they played a really outstanding game for us. They’re a big part, I was really proud of that bunch out there, the defensive line.” -Owner Jerry Jones

» Results vs. Giants: 36-31 victory in Week 1

» Next meeting vs. Giants: Week 12

EAGLES (3-3)

» Division standing: 2nd

» Week 6 result: 31-20 victory over the Buccaneers (HIGHLIGHTS)

» Stat leaders: QB Nick Foles – 296 passing yards and three touchdowns, RB LeSean McCoy – 25 carries for 116 yards, WR Riley Cooper – four receptions for 120 yards and 1 touchdown.

» Comments: “I felt Nick (Foles) did a really great job. What we do offensively, we talked about it all along, we don’t change. He ran our offense, he did a really great job in spreading the ball around to different receivers. I’m really, really happy with how he played today.” -Coach Chip Kelly

» Results vs. Giants: 31-21 victory in Week 5

» Next meeting vs. Giants: Week 8

REDSKINS (1-4)

» Division standing: 3rd

» Week 6 result 31-16 loss to the Cowboys (HIGHLIGHTS)

» Stat leaders: QB Robert Griffin III – 246 passing yards and one interception, RB Alfred Morris – 16 carries for 81 yards and one touchdown, WR Pierre Garcon – Six receptions for 69 yards.

» Comments: “In order to win on the road you have to play a complete game. I thought we played some great defense. Any time you’re 0-for-3 in the red zone and have a couple of turnovers to their one, a couple big plays on special teams, you’re not going to win on the road. So that was disappointing.” -Coach Mike Shanahan

» Results vs. Giants: None

» Next meeting vs. Giants: Week 13

GIANTS (0-6)

» Division standing: 4th

» Week 6 result: 27-21 loss to the Bears (HIGHLIGHTS)

» Stat leaders: QB Eli Manning – 239 passing yards, one touchdown and three interceptions, RB Brandon Jacobs – 22 carries for 106 yards and two touchdowns, WR Rueben Randle – three receptions for 75 yards and one touchdown.

» Comments: “You don’t know how it’s going to turn out. Right now, the other NFC East teams have two wins and the best record team has two wins. We’ve got to stick together and just keep fighting and keep making improvements and see if we can get on a hot streak, but obviously it’s just take one game at a time and worry about getting that first win and that will be a nice one.” -QB Eli Manning

“Once the season is over with, it doesn’t bother me. That’s last year. There’s nothing now you can do about it. The only thing you can do is just get better from it and make sure you get better from those corrections and make sure you just never get complacent because we’ve had games where we would play outstanding and then we had games where we didn’t play so good. The key here is just never get complacent and just always working on your craft and always trying to get better as a defensive unit.”Safety Antrel Rolle on defensive struggles in 2012 (WATCH INSIDER)

Giants move up in post-draft power rankings

Posted by Dan Salomone on May 2, 2013 – 9:00 am

With the NFL Draft in the rearview mirror, the Giants find themselves up in ESPN’s latest power rankings released this week, climbing two spots to No. 12.

In the post-draft poll, the Giants landed right behind the Washington Redskins, who moved up the same amount to No. 11. Meanwhile, the Cowboys, who face the Giants in the season opener in four months, fell to No. 20 (previously 18), and the Eagles moved up one spot to 25th.

Over on NFL.com, the Giants cracked the top 10, moving up one spot and passing the Redskins right at No. 10. Dallas dropped two places to 18th, and Philadelphia jumped to No. 23.

The Giants drafted seven players last weekend — four on the offensive and defensive lines – to build on a 2012 team that finished 9-7 but fell short of the playoffs a season after winning it all.

CB Aaron Ross readies for faster division

Posted by Dan Salomone on April 8, 2013 – 9:00 am

The NFC East has picked up a few steps since Aaron Ross last played in it. During his stint in Jacksonville, Robert Griffin III emerged with Washington, and the Eagles this offseason ushered in their new coach Chip Kelly, known for his up-tempo offense.

But speed is no stranger to Ross.

His wife and fellow University of Texas product, Sanya Richards-Ross, is a four-time Olympic gold medalist in track and field, and trains in Waco, home of Griffin’s alma mater of Baylor. So Ross knows world-class speed when he sees it, and knows it will be a faster division than the one he last faced as a member of the Giants in the 2011 Super Bowl run.

“It’s always strong, it’s a fierce rivalry every week when you’re playing against the NFC East,” Ross said recently on NFL Network. “Like RGIII, my wife trains in Waco, and I had a chance to see him train when he was in college. So he’s a beast and he’s come into the league and is pretty much ripping it up. And Philadelphia is always good and the Cowboys always have a stacked roster, so you never know what to expect from those guys. The NFC East is a great division to play in. It seems like it’s always a primetime game.”

Having four Pro Bowl quarterbacks in the division only ups that excitement level for cornerbacks like Ross, who also talked about what future players at his position can expect in a pass-heavy NFL.

“It’s a passing league, so I think it’s a great time for a competitive corner to come into the league,” Ross said with the NFL Draft later this month. “You need about four or five corners on your roster, so it’s a great time for corners. Coming into the league, you have great receivers, of course great quarterbacks, and you get a chance to show your skills off.
