GIANTS WEEK 11 FANTASY RANKINGS

Andre BrownAndre Brown made a believer of the fantasy experts in his season debut against the Raiders on Sunday.

Brown picked up 115 yards and a touchdown on a career-high 30 carries and jumped 20 spots in the fantasy rankings, from No. 30 to No. 10. He scored 17.9 fantasy points, the most of any Giants running back this season, and finished as the league’s No. 5 running back.

“He’s going to be a top 20 running back for me because I don’t see another running back in that backfield getting that many carries,” ESPN’s Eric Karabell said.  “He’s 39 rushing yards away from the team lead and he’s played in one game. Think about that for a minute. Going forward they’ve got Green Bay coming up, I’m going to rank him ahead of Ray Rice and ahead of Trent Richardson. These guys are doing nothing, Andre Brown is a good player. If I knew he was going to get that many touches I would have ranked him higher. Yes — he is a top 20 running back this week and for the rest of the season.”

WEEK 10 FANTASY RESULTS

Brown is the only Giant ranked in the top 10 but the team’s defense is not far behind. The unit earned an average ranking of No. 12, one spot down from last week, but was ranked as high as No. 5 by Karabell and ESPN.

Jason Pierre-Paul“I’d say the Giants are a good streaming defense,” Karaball said. “But they’ve also gotten a lot of luck with the quarterbacks they’ve played. Scott Tolzien will be starting his first NFL game on Sunday and I have to believe he will be good for at least two interceptions and maybe a fumble or two.”

The team’s defense finished No. 3 in the league with 15 points scored in Week 10.

But several Giants are moving in the opposite direction. Quarterback Eli Manning fell five sports, from No. 14 to No. 19, and was ranked as low as No. 23 by ESPN. Wide receiver Victor Cruz also fell, from No. 12 to No. 15. Cruz had been ranked as high as No. 6 in Weeks 5 and 6 but remains out of the top 10 for the second week in a row.

CBS Sports’ three-man panel apparently had mixed emotions about Josh Brown. He was ranked as the league’s No. 2 kicker by one member but received a No. 23 ranking by another. Brown earned an average ranking of No. 18.

Here’s a look at this week’s fantasy rankings. This week’s ranking is listed in parentheses. +/- indicates the difference between this week’s rankings and last week’s.

THROWBACK THURSDAY: BRETT FAVRE’S LAST PASS AS A PACKER

Brett FavreOver 16 seasons with the Green Bay Packers, soon-to-be Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre passed for 61,655 yards, 442 touchdowns and guided the team to a world championship in Super Bowl XXXI. Favre holds NFL career records in passing yards (71,838), touchdown passes (508) and pass completions (6,300).

But he also holds the NFL record for most interceptions thrown in a career. And on a frosty night at Lambeau Field in Green Bay in the 2007 NFC Championship game, that’s how Favre’s tenure as a Packer would end.

Tied, 20-20 in overtime, the Giants’ Corey Webster intercepted Favre to set up a 47-yard, game-winning field goal and send the Giants to their fourth Super Bowl in team history.

VIDEO: COREY WEBSTER PICKS OFF BRETT FAVRE

“”I just didn’t throw it outside enough,” Favre said to the Milwaukee Sentinel. “If I throw it out where I would have liked to. . . . It was a shake route. Donald (Driver) ran it more like an out, which was fine. It just didn’t get out far enough. It’s too bad.”

The interception set the Giants up on the Green Bay 38-yard line. Three plays later, Lawrence Tynes connected on his third field goal of the game to put the Giants up, 23-20, and hand Green Bay it’s third home playoff defeat in team history.

Donald Driver, Corey Webster“Everything happens for a reason,” Webster said to the New York Daily News. “It was good to go out there and play against one of the greatest ever. A great receiving corps, too. It was great to make that play. I feel good.”

Webster had been beaten by Driver for a 90-yard touchdown earlier in the game but was determined to bounce back.

“As a DB, we have to have a short-term memory but I wanted to come back and make a play so bad,” Webster said to the New York Daily News. “I just wanted to make a play and the coaches said you will get an opportunity.”

Webster continued, “I got 100 messages on my phone, so everybody will keep reminding me. But I’ve still got to go to work. Our job is not over yet.”

Two weeks later in Super Bowl XLI, the Giants stunned the previously unbeaten New England Patriots, 17-14.

QUOTABLES

“I think we understand exactly what we need to do and we’re just focused on conquering each and every week. Focusing on the little things that we have to do during practice and really just getting a leg up on our opponent and just having consistent days. Just being consistent, doing the things that we need to do in order to win. I think we’re doing that so far.”-WR Victor Cruz

GIANTS FANTASY RANKINGS: WEEK 5

Victor Cruz, Dunta RobinsonVictor Cruz finished as the league’s No. 3 receiver in Week 4, the second time he has finished in the top three, and breaks into the top 10 for the first time this season in this week’s fantasy rankings.

Cruz comes in at No. 6 and was ranked as high as No. 4 by ESPN. He moved up five spots from his No. 11 ranking in Week 4.

WEEK 4 FANTASY RESULTS

The fantasy experts expect David Wilson to have his best game yet against the Eagles on Sunday. He is ranked as the No. 16 running back, a season-high, and moved up 13 spots from his ranking last week. Wilson entered the season ranked No. 17 but has fallen every week since.

The Eagles allow the 19.2 fantasy points per game to standard running backs, according to fantasy football insider James Morris, and Wilson is expected to carry an increased workload after the Giants cut running back Da’Rel Scott earlier in the week.

Quarterback Eli Manning moved up six spots, from No. 19 to No. 13, and wide receiver Hakeem Nicks moved up five spots, from No. 27 to No. 22.

Tight end Brandon Myers was the only Giant to fall in this week’s rankings, dropping one spot from No. 14 to No. 15.

Here’s a look at this week’s fantasy rankings. This week’s ranking is listed in parentheses. +/- indicated the difference between this week’ rankings and last week’s.

GIANTS FANTASY RANKINGS: WEEK 4

Eli ManningFor the second week in a row, the Giants players are falling in the fantasy rankings, most notably quarterback Eli Manning and wide receiver Hakeem Nicks.

Manning fell from No. 12 in Week 3 to No. 19 and was bumped down 11 spots by both Yahoo and Fox after he failed to find the end zone in the Giants’ 38-0 loss to Carolina last weekend. He finished with 4.16 points, No. 31 among quarterbacks.

WEEK 3 FANTASY RESULTS

Nicks failed to score any fantasy points in Week 3, the first time he’s done so in 2012, and dropped eight spots, from No. 19 to No. 27. Week 4 is the first time Nicks has been ranked outside of the top 20.

But his fellow receiver, Victor Cruz, is still flirting on the edge of the top 10. Cruz, No. 11, dropped a spot from last week but hasn’t been ranked lower than No. 12 this season. Cruz led the league in receiving in Week 1 when his three touchdown receptions translated into 29.8 fantasy points.

The only areas the Giants did not regress were at tight end and on defense as Brandon Myers (No. 14) and the team’s defense (No. 25) earned the same ranking for the second week in a row.

Here’s a look at this week’s fantasy rankings. This week’s ranking is listed in parentheses.

QUOTABLES

“We’ve had some good moments and we’ve had some not good moments. That’s the ebb and flow of the game. Would I say it’s outstanding? No. Would I say it’s poor? No. We’ve just been in the middle of the road and we can play better. We’re going to try to play better. We’re working to play better. They’re all working to play better.” -Defensive coordinator Perry Fewell
