Week 13 Fantasy Football Grades

Posted by Fantasy_101 on December 4, 2012 – 2:32 pm

The views expressed in this article are not of the New York Football Giants but those of an independent Fantasy Expert.

fantasy-fb113111111Steve Johnson WR Bills

Last Week: 2 catches, 18 yards, TD

Johnson caught his fifth touchdown of the year against New England on Sunday, but shortly after was taken out of the game with a hamstring injury.  At the very least he got you a touchdown before exiting the game and will more than likely play this week vs. St. Louis Rams.

Arrow: Up

Aaron Hernandez TE Patriots

Last Week: 97 yards

Hernadez caught eight passes for 97 yards (both season highs) in Sunday’s 23-16 win over Miami.  Now a primetime matchup against the Houston Texans (19th ranked pass defense) is up next on Sunday night. With Rob Gronkowski still sidelined, Hernandez’s production will continue to be high, especially when they start to enter that red zone.

Arrow: Up

Jets Defense

Last Week: 6 points allowed, interception, 2 sacks

The Jets defense gave up the least amount of points to an opponent all week, holding Arizona to an impressive six points.  Although the defense didn’t score any touchdowns or have multiple turnovers, it did manage to have two sacks and held the Cardinals to just two field goals all game. That should be enough for any starting defense, any week.

Fantasy Football Primer

Posted by Fantasy_101 on November 30, 2012 – 3:04 pm

The views expressed in this article are not of the New York Football Giants but those of an independent Fantasy Expert.

fantasy-fb113111111Knowshown Moreno RB Broncos, last week: 85 rushing yards

Moreno looked like a former first round pick last week at Arrow Stadium, running the ball 20 times for 85 yards while adding four receptions for 26 yards. Although the Broncos face the best rush defense in the league this week, Tampa Bay also ranks 32nd in the league defending the pass, which will make for an interesting matchup with Peyton Manning at quarterback.  The Broncos offense should be able to get the play-action going early and open up plenty of opportunities for Moreno and the entire Denver offense.

Andy Dalton QB Bengals, last week: 210 passing yards, 3 TDs

Dalton has nine touchdowns in his past three games played.  Through that three-game span, the red rifle hasn’t turned the ball over once and has yet to throw an interception in over a month (since Week 9 vs Denver).  With the San Diego Chargers pass defense ranking 20th in the NFL  (243 yards up per game) and his new favorite red zone target, Mohamed Sanu  4 Td’s in last 3 games), the Bengals should have no trouble putting up points against an average Chargers defense.

Aaron Hernandez TE Patriots, last week: 36 receiving yards

Though Hernandez has had a disappointing year due to lingering injuries, this week against the Dolphins could be one where the starting tight end could have his breakout performance of the year. The last game he played in Miami last season was a memorable one, catching seven passes for 103 yards and a touchdown.  Tom Brady had 517 passing yards and four touchdowns.  No Rob Gronkowski this week only betters a good situation to begin with at the tight end position for Hernandez owners. Fantasy Preview: Thursday Night Football

Posted by Fantasy_101 on November 29, 2012 – 8:56 am

The views expressed in this article are not of the New York Football Giants but those of an independent Fantasy Expert.

RB Jacquizz Rodgers, Falcons

Last Week: 79 total yards, TD

Rodgers continues to show that he is steadily moving into the starting running back role for the Atlanta Falcons.  With a season-high 10 carries in Week 12, Rodgers managed 4.9 yards per carry average, along with two catches for 30 yards as well.  Michael Turner may be the one who gets those goal line touches every now and then with his seven total touchdowns on the year (six rushing, one receiving), but Rodgers (two total touchdowns in 2012) looks to be that big play type of back and the x-factor for the Falcons running game. Whether it’s catching a screen pass for a long gain or breaking off a big run, his development as an overall back looks to be promising and will only help with experience for the second-year player out of Oregon State.

RB Chris Ivory, Saints

Last Week: 34 rush yards

Ivory is an explosive player who is either going to score on a 56-yard touchdown run (like he did in week 10 against the Falcons) for your team, or have 16 carries for 71 yards (which was produced in his past two contests he has played in).  The Atlanta Falcons rush defense ranks 22nd in the league, giving up an average of 123 rushing yards.  With the Saints’ three-headed running attack that is Mark Ingram, Pierre Thomas and now Chris Ivory, it is always in question who will be the break out back of the game.  Evidence based upon the teams’ last meeting just a few weeks ago, history would say go with Ivory (seven carries for 72 yards and a touchdown).  Ivory it is.

Week 12 Fantasy Football Grades

Posted by Fantasy_101 on November 27, 2012 – 12:00 pm

The views expressed in this article are not of the New York Football Giants but those of an independent Fantasy Expert.

Mohamed Sanu: WR Bengals

Last Week: 5 catches, 29 yards, 2 TDs

Sanu proved to be everything as advertised in the previous weeks, catching the ball five times and scoring twice in the red zone.  The Bengals have suddenly become a possible wild card team for the second straight season.  With Green getting doubled team almost every play, especially in the red zone, look for Sanu to keep catching touchdowns on a weekly basis.

Arrow: Up

Ravens Defense

Last Week: 6 sacks, 13 points allowed

Baltimore had another dominating performance on defense in its 16-13 OT win vs. Chargers.  Although the Ravens didn’t cause a turnover, they did manage to get to Chargers quarterback Phillip RIvers six times.  The Steelers are up next on the schedule and had eight turnovers last week against the Cleveland Browns.

Arrow: Up

Ryan FItzpatrick: QB Bills

Last Week: 180 passing yards, TD, INT

Fitzpatrick wasn’t as effective as he could have been, but at the very least had a touchdown pass and only one turnover.  So he didn’t kill your team, but he also wasn’t winning any matchups for you either. With a game coming up against the Jaguars’ 28th-ranked pass defense, Fitzpatrick will have a good chance of bouncing back.

Fantasy Football Preview: Week 12

Posted by Fantasy_101 on November 23, 2012 – 11:37 am

The views expressed in this article are not of the New York Football Giants but those of an independent Fantasy Expert.

Ryan Fitzpatrick QB Bills

Last Week: 168 passing yards, no scores

Fitzpatrick is a hit or miss play each week.  Through 10 games, Buffalo’s starting quarterback has gone four times without throwing a single touchdown while only throwing for 300 yards once (Week 10).  With a favorable matchup this week against the Colts’ 20th-ranked pass defense in a must-win game for the 4-6 Bills and 6-4 Colts, this could very well be a shootout.

Ronnie Hillman RB Broncos

Last Week: 43 yards rushing

Hillman had 12 carries for 43 rushing yards last Sunday vs. San Diego, while McGahee was injured and is now out for the season being put on injured reserved.  Facing the 25th-ranked pass rush defense in the Kansas City Chiefs (giving up an average of 129 yards per game), Hillman should reap the benefits in Week 12.

Jalen Parmele RB Jaguars

Last Week: 80 rushing yards

Parmele was one of the hottest commodities this past week in waiver-wire pickups while former starter Rashard Jennings failed to produce. The Titans and their 28th-ranked rush defense (allowing 128 yards per contest) as well as their 26th ranked pass defense (266 yards) look to be favorable for everyone on offense in Jacksonville, especially Parmele.

Week 12 Fantasy Football Primer

Posted by Fantasy_101 on November 20, 2012 – 10:13 am

The views expressed in this article are not of the New York Football Giants but those of an independent Fantasy Expert.

Top Waiver-Wire Adds

RB Jalen Parmele, Jaguars
Last Week: 80 rush yards, TD

Parmele burst onto the fantasy scene this week. When his number was called, he contributed in a way former starter Rashad Jennings failed to do in five games (never gaining more than 60 yards and only one touchdown). With a rocky Tennessee Titans defense up next, Parmele could be at it again.

QB Colin Kaepernick, 49ers
Last week: 243 yards, 2 TD

Alex Smith is getting healthier as we speak, at least he better hope so.  With Kaepernick’s near-flawless game against one of the toughest defenses in the league in the Chicago Bears, there may be a controversy brewing in the Bay Area.

WR Danario Alexander, Rams
Last Week: 96 yards, 2 TD

Alexander has more than proven his worth for any fantasy roster. Compiling for more than 290 yards in his last three games with three touchdowns and 15 receptions, he looks to be Bradford’s new favorite go-to target in St. Louis.  As the Ravens possibly come into town without Ed Reed and an already banged up Baltimore secondary, Bradford and Alexander will try to take full advantage.

Week 10 Fantasy Football Grades

Posted by Fantasy_101 on November 13, 2012 – 11:55 am

The views expressed in this article are not of the New York Football Giants but those of an independent Fantasy Expert.

Jake Locker QB Titans

Last Week: 122 YDS, 2 TD

Locker had a productive game back in the Titans’ starting lineup, taking care of the ball all afternoon by not turning it over once.  He also was able to throw two touchdown passes and had 36 yards rushing.
He isn’t Cam Newton or Andrew Luck, but this quarterback is a nice substitute not named either of those two.

Arrow: Up

Steelers Defense

Last Week: 13 points against, interception, 2 sacks

Pittsburgh had a prototypical game on Monday Night Football, allowing only 13 points and one touchdown in their 16-13 OT winning performance.  Still searching for their first touchdown on defense, the Steelers hope their quarterback of the defense, Troy Polamalu, will make his first start of the season vs. Baltimore in Week 11.

Arrow: Up

Alex Smith QB 49ers

Last Week: 72 YDS, TD

Smith was knocked out of Sunday’s contest against the St. Louis Rams early in the second quarter. Smith was 7 of 8 passing with 72 yards and a touchdown before getting a concussion on a designed quarterback rollout.

Arrow: Neutral

Heath Miller Steelers TE

Last Week: 4 REC, 47 YDS

Miller added 47 yards in Week 10 and now has 431 yards on the year, which is on pace to break his career high of 798 back in 2009.  Ben Roethlisberger’s early exit in Monday night’s game clearly didn’t help Miller’s stats, but should be back to one of the best tight ends next week vs. Baltimore Ravens.

Arrow: Neutral

Fantasy Football Primer: Week 10

Posted by Fantasy_101 on November 10, 2012 – 7:42 am

The views expressed in this article are not of the New York Football Giants but those of an independent Fantasy Expert.

Alex Smith 49ers Quarterback

Last Week:  232 passing yards, 3 touchdowns

Smith has only thrown five interceptions through eight games played with 12 touchdown passes.  Though he has only thrown for 300 yards in one game, he has been consistent, and every now and then he’ll give you that top performance that wins you your match-up.

Heath Miller Steelers TE

Last Week: 4 catches for 48 yards

Miller has six touchdown catches, which ranks second in the NFL and only one behind Rob Gronkowski (7) for the most at his position.  Monday Night football vs. a struggling Kansas City team seems like it could lead to a potentially huge day for the Steelers’ passing offense as a whole.

Ryan Broyles Lions WR

Last Week: 6 catches for 52 yards

Broyles’ numbers in his first three games he has played in his professional career are combined for 12 catches for 140 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Calvin Johnson only has 1 touchdown all year, and the leader of the team, Titus Young, has just three an is currently questionable with a knee injury. Stafford and Broyles look to be the x-factors if there were to be any breakout stars for Detroit in Week 10.

Fantasy Preview: Thursday Night Football

Posted by Fantasy_101 on November 7, 2012 – 4:00 pm

The views expressed in this article are not of the New York Football Giants but those of an independent Fantasy Expert.

WR Cecil Shorts, Jaguars

Last Week: 56 receiving yards

Shorts’ production dropped drastically this past week. After having back-to-back 100-yard games, Shorts had 56 yards and was targeted less than both Blackmon and Robinson, who combined for 18 targets in Week 9. The last time Shorts faced the Colts was in Week 3 when he had an 80-yard touchdown reception and his longest play of his career.  With much emphasis on other Jaguars offensive weapons, the Jacksonville wideout has an opportunity to succeed yet again and add to his team-high 456 yards receiving.

WR T.Y. Hilton, Colts

Last Week: 102 receiving yards, TD

Both T.Y. Hilton and Donnie Avery have been putting up numbers every other week it seems.  If one doesn’t have a big game, the other one usually makes up for it.  With the “throw to the open man” style of play in this new Indianapolis offense (that has Andrew Luck being the talk of the league), Hilton should be able to have a productive game against the 25th ranked pass defense as Avery is still listed as a game-time decision.
