2:53 — With the ball on the Giants’ 37, Cowboys go for it on 4th-and-1. Giants stuff RB Lawrence Vickers for no gain and take over on downs. Giants are building the bridge when it comes to fourth down defense after the Falcons failed on three attempts in their playoff game nearly eight months ago to the day.

Around the locker room: Preseason Wrap-Up

Posted by Dan Salomone on August 26, 2012 – 6:12 pm

Giants.com takes you around the locker room as the defending Super Bowl champs wrap up the Bears game and prepare for the final preseason game of 2012.

With his performance on Friday night, RB David Wilson was asked if he heard the buzz around New York fans.

“When you have a game on national TV and you play well or you play bad, I mean you’re on national TV so everybody gets the chance to see you and give their opinion.”

DE Adewale Ojomo is honored to be the current Giants sack leader of the preseason, but isn’t surprised the work is paying off.

“No, haven’t really been surprised. I just believe in myself, believe in the coaching that I’m getting from coach Robert Nunn, what I’m getting from these guys, that’s it. I wouldn’t be surprised if I went out and had a couple more sacks this game. It’s not surprising to me.”

CB Michael Coe, who eventually replaced injured Prince Amukamara against the Bears, talked about his increased role.

“Well I think the coaches prepare everybody to be a starter. We have a slogan, “always work like a champion.” Coach Pete (Giunta) always tells all the DBs to always prepare like a starter. You can’t be shocked to be out there. You always have to prepare like that. Coach Coughlin and all the staff prepare us well for that every week. I think all the guys out here, regardless of where you are on the depth chart, we prepare like a starter.”

Around the locker room: Giants prep for Chicago

Posted by Dan Salomone on August 21, 2012 – 5:42 pm

Giants.com takes you around the locker room as the defending Super Bowl champs prepare for their third preseason game against the Chicago Bears.

QB Eli Manning gave his thoughts on the upcoming game:

“It should be a good opportunity for us, to go against another good defense. I think it’s been good this week, having three days to game plan and treat it like a normal work week. So, that’ll be good. Everybody should know their assignments, and have a good plan to go in, we should be able to execute, and do some things well.”

Breaking a bone in his foot nearly three months ago, WR Hakeem Nicks said he’s right on schedule:

“Definitely.  I feel like I’m right on schedule.  No setbacks thus far, so we just have to keep going the way we’ve been going and just keep it simple and go out there and do what I need to do.”

First-round draft choice RB David Wilson is looking to show what he can do on Friday night:

“They got me going with the ones so I look at it as really my first preseason game. Getting a real feel and going against a first team defense and out there with the starters and see how productive I can be.”

Veteran offensive lineman Sean Locklear spoke about meshing with a new system in his first season with the Giants:

“It’s a learning process. Just getting out there with the ones and learning the entire system, which I’m still probably about 90 percent, 95 percent there, so it’s still a learning process. I felt I’ve done well over the two games that I did get to play.”
