Daily Blitz: Wilson’s “super return” sparks offense

Posted by Dan Salomone on October 15, 2012 – 9:00 am

He’s getting close.

Coming off a blocked field goal before halftime in a defensive grudge match, the Giants offense needed a spark coming out of the locker room in San Francisco. David Wilson, who already had kick returns of 44 and 53 in previous weeks, stepped up to the plate.

The 49ers won the coin toss and elected to receive to begin the game, which gave the ball to the Giants to start the second half with a 10-3 lead. That’s when Wilson ripped off a 66-yard return and gift-wrapped the ball on the San Francisco 32-yard line for the offense to take over. Seven plays later, Ahmad Bradshaw scored on a one-yard leap into the end zone and gave the Giants a 14-point lead.

Wilson had two returns for 93 yards on the day, upping his season average to 28.4.

“The kickoff return after the half was huge,” Tom Coughlin said of Wilson, who also had a 46-yard return called back due to a holding penalty in the first quarter. “That was a momentum-changing play in that we came out, we knew what we had to do offensively. And they kicked the ball off and we had a super return. David again looked like he might go all the way, but [he] put us in excellent, excellent field position.”

Inside the Locker Room: Thoughts after Philly

Posted by Giants.com on October 1, 2012 – 4:27 pm

Image
Last night, the Giants fell to the Eagles 19-17 in Philadelphia. Here’s what players were talking about in the locker room the morning after.

QB Eli Manning on moving on after the loss…
“We’re 2-2 right now, it’s not the ideal situation but you know, it could be a lot worse. Philadelphia is 3-1, we’re not far out. There’s a lot of football to be played. We still got four more divisional games, it’s a lot of football left. Hey, we got to worry about Cleveland and get back to winning. There’s no point getting down now. Everybody knows we’re going to see Philadelphia the last game of the regular season. I have a feeling that’s going to be a big game for us.”

LB Mathias Kiwanuka on feelings after watching game tape the morning after…
“You’re obviously upset about it, each individual sees those plays they could have made…so maybe a little bit of anger, but we’ll take that anger and put it into next week.”

RB David Wilson on his big kick returns…
“I think the guys in front of me did an excellent job in setting it up and getting on their guys. Coach always says you get a good return back there, guys get more motivated to block…so hopefully we can keep it going.”
