SPOTLIGHT:

Rookie Blog: CB Jayron Hosley

Posted by Giants.com on September 24, 2012 – 1:14 pm

Cornerback Jayron Hosley was drafted by the New York Giants in the third round this past April. Throughout the season, the Virginia Tech product and Florida native will provide an inside look at his journey of making it in the NFL. This week’s post begins with the Giants’ first road trip of the season to Carolina, where Hosley made his second start and notched an interception before halftime of the 36-7 victory over the Panthers on Thursday night.

It’s a business trip. From the flight down to meetings at the hotel, everyone basically focuses in on the game. It was good to get on the road. You want to go on the road and get a win, and we went out there with that mentality. We had a short week so we didn’t get as much time to prepare, but we spent a lot of time getting in a lot of mental work. We were ready. I was ready. It was our first official road game and I was looking forward to it. I think it went pretty well.

Coming to the Giants, I knew they were road warriors and I liked that. Like in college, I always look forward to going with my boys into another team’s territory and getting a win. When you’re at home, you’ve got to defend your home. But when you go on a road trip, you want to make that your home, too, in a sense. It’s just one of those things that everyone wants to compete and fight. When you go to another team’s territory, it’s like we’re here to take something.

It was a game that, being that it was my second start, I felt like I have to go out here and prove something. I still have a lot to prove, and I was just doing my job. Everyone was just doing their job. Everybody was playing with one accord. It just so happened that it opened up for me to get the interception. We had great pressure up front, which allowed me to make that play. I think overall it was a pretty good second start for me and something to grow off of.

When I was drafted, I couldn’t say that I’d already have two starts in the NFL, not at all. Really for me, it was just making the team and making my name on the team and kind of getting that respect by doing what’s expected. It played out well for me though and I’m just continuing to work. Keep it humble. Keep it focused.

Rookie Blog: CB Jayron Hosley

Posted by Giants.com on September 10, 2012 – 3:46 pm

Cornerback Jayron Hosley was drafted by the New York Giants in the third round this past April. Each week, the Virginia Tech alum and Florida native will provide an inside look at his journey of making it in the NFL. This week’s post begins with Hosley’s first game in the NFL last Wednesday against the Dallas Cowboys.

Wednesday night was what I had been working toward for a long time now. It was finally here, emotions were up, but I prepared like it was a regular game, like any other game. On game day, I just went over my playbook. We had our meetings in the morning like our regular routine.

I got a little foot rub from the trainers, ate my pregame meal, and then it was just getting prepared at the stadium. I made sure I was focused and going over my keys and things like that to be ready for the game.

And then the wait began. The hardest part about night games is the waiting. But the game clock kept getting closer and closer to kickoff, and then it was time to hit the field for intros. The fans, the smoke and the fog, it was crazy. All I saw were all the flashes of light. Like you see on TV, all the cameras were flashing in the stadium. It was definitely that NFL feeling – that feeling of ‘I’m finally here.’

When I was out there on the field, it was the same thing — ‘I’m here.’ But I couldn’t get too caught up in the moment. I had to focus in and key on what I had to do and execute. It was definitely exciting, but at the same time, you have to snap into it real quick.

Cornerback Jayron Hosley was drafted by the New York Giants in the third round this past April. Each week, the Virginia Tech alum and Florida native will provide an inside look at his journey of making it in the NFL. This week’s post begins the day after NFL rosters were finalized, meaning it is now full speed ahead to Wednesday night’s opener against Dallas.

The season starts now. It’s time to go.

We’ve made it to the 53-man roster, and coaches have made their decisions on who they want to be here and did it for the best of the team. The mood changes now that we start actually game-planning for the opponent. It’s only days away now from the prime-time lights of Giants vs. Cowboys.

Back at the facility, I also moved to a permanent locker like the rest of the new guys. I’m right next to my former Tech teammate David Wilson. Before, us rookies and guys new to the team had temporary metal lockers in the middle, but those are cleared out now. You really feel like you’re at home now. You don’t want to get complacent because there’s still a lot of work to do, but this is home now.

From the draft to rookie minicamp to training camp and preseason, it was a great experience out there. It was good to get out there with an NFL team, the New York Giants, and get that work in. We really got that quality work in that you need, and you could see us progressing every day. It’s time for the real season, when it counts, so I’m looking forward to it.

There was good news as I got back onto the practice field today after missing the final two preseason games. Now I’m just trying to take it day by day leading up to the Dallas game, and we’ll see how the toe injury thing goes. Right now, I’m feeling very confident playing on it, but we’ll just see how it goes. There’s going to be a lot going on Wednesday night and it’s going to be a very exciting game, but right now I’m just trying to take it day by day.
