THURSDAY MORNING HEADLINES

QUOTABLES

“I expect us to compete like heck. I don’t think that, the noise is not going to be the issue. We’ve got to regroup and compete like heck and play much better and do a better job in protecting the quarterback. We can’t have anything like the first three snaps of the game the other day. We do obviously have to have some balance and be able to run a little bit against a very good defensive team. But I expect us to prepare well and to go up there with the idea of competing and doing the best we possibly can, finding a way to win.” -Coach Tom Coughlin

Giants Week 15 fantasy results

Posted by Joe Kania on December 18, 2013 – 3:00 pm

Giants offense struggles in loss to Seattle.

Jerrel Jernigan

Eli ManningThe fantasy experts predicted that the Giants offense would struggle against the top-rated Seahawks defense and gave quarterback Eli Manning, kicker Josh Brown and receivers Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz season-low rankings heading into Week 15.

Two players, Manning and Brown, did finish with season-lows in fantasy points scored against Seattle and although Cruz and Nicks didn’t, they were close.

For the first time all season, Manning scored a negative amount of points. He finished with -3.76, nearly five points behind backup Curtis Painter who entered the game in the fourth quarter and picked up 1.2 points.

“I didn’t play well,” Manning said. “I didn’t play as well as I needed to. Some of the throws that were intercepted could have been better. They could have been better throws. You hope some of them aren’t intercepted. I think overall, offensively, I don’t think there was… I think probably every position got outplayed and beaten on a number of instances, which led to that performance.”

Manning had scored 10 or more points in each of his previous four contests and topped his previous season-low of 4.16 points set in Week 3.

Victor CruzHis top three pass-catchers, Cruz, Nicks and Rueben Randle, were held to a combined three points after Nicks scored .5 points and Randle scored 0. But when Cruz left the game at the beginning of the fourth quarter with a concussion, Jerrell Jernigan stepped in and benefitted from the increased reps.

The third-year pro scored 6.7 points after accumulating 7.2 through the Giants first 14 games.

For the second time this season, Brown was held scoreless. But Brown’s performance is more of a reflection on the offense, which was shut out, than himself.

“A good football team came out today,” Nicks said of the Seahawks. “We didn’t get anything going on the offensive side of the ball.  The defense played really good.  It’s just a game we need to go back and look at film and critique ourselves and try to come out and fight another week.”

WEDNESDAY MORNING HEADLINES

QUOTABLES

“Sure, everyone knows that the offense is struggling, but like I said, this team wins and loses as a team, and there will never be any division in this locker room. We have no shot if that takes place, and I don’t think that yesterday (Sunday) there were any signs of that. I just think there was a sign of trying to challenge guys to go out there and play better. For me, I think that’s one of the hardest things to do as a leader, to go out there and challenge guys when you think they can go out there and play better. In the same right, you’re going out there and challenging yourself, so I don’t think at any point yesterday with anything that was said that there was any finger pointing I just think it was guys trying to get guys riled up to go play better. That’s pretty much it.” -DE Justin Tuck

QUOTABLES

“I think guys are trying, obviously we got outplayed and that first half we just couldn’t get anything going.  There’s nothing much to be excited about.  We had a lot of negative plays and I think it’s frustrating for us.  We were frustrated as an offense, I’m sure the defense was frustrated seeing us going out there and not playing very well.” -QB Eli Manning

What they’re saying: Giants vs. Seahawks

Posted by Joe Kania on December 16, 2013 – 3:00 pm

Giants react after dropping to Seattle at home.

Tom Coughlin

“I expected a great effort today. I think defensively and with our special teams, we got it. Offensively we did not – there’s no way to sugarcoat it. A pathetic offensive performance – we didn’t block anybody, we didn’t make any plays, we didn’t create any opportunities for ourselves. I told the players who prepared and gave great effort that I appreciated what they did, and I told those that were obvious they had not, that I felt sorry for them because they’re missing the whole point.” -Coach Tom Coughlin

“Coach Coughlin can’t take any of this blame. Like I said, personally, I won’t allow that. He can’t take any of this blame. Coaches coach and they did a phenomenal job getting us prepared for this. We had a great week of practice. Everything that we saw out there from their offense, we went over with our coaches, defensive coordinator, assistant coaches, so forth and so on, and they did an exceptional job preparing us for today. Coach Coughlin, he’s a coach, but he can’t coach heart, he can’t make a play or have heart, he can’t make a player have passion about this game, and that’s what we were lacking out there today. Like I said, coach can say what he wants, but personally, I won’t allow him to take that because coaches coach and the players play the game.” -S Antrel Rolle

“You go into this game and you know you’re out of the playoffs, but you kind of look forward to the opportunity to compete and go against a good defense and try to go out there and enjoy those three hours of playing football and doing something you love and competing and trying to have some good plays, but it’s not fun when you get dominated like that, when you get beat and you can’t get anything going offensively and obviously struggle and throw interceptions and have bad plays. So that’s not enjoyable and it’s tough to deal with.” -QB Eli Manning

“A good football team came out today.  We didn’t get anything going on the offensive side of the ball.  The defense played really good.  It’s just a game we need to go back and look at film and critique ourselves and try to come out and fight another week.” -WR Hakeem Nicks

MONDAY MORNING HEADLINES

QUOTABLES

“I thought we had a couple of good games, but when you can single out certain moments, you know you’re not doing very well offensively. I thought when we played at Philadelphia, offensively we were moving the ball up and down the field and had to settle for a bunch of field goals, but at least I felt we were driving the ball. There have been times when we were able to move it. Obviously today, every time we had a little spark or got a first down, we followed it up with a bad play or a negative play right after.” -QB Eli Manning
