What they’re saying: Giants vs. Seahawks

Posted by Joe Kania on December 16, 2013 – 3:00 pm

Giants react after dropping to Seattle at home.

Tom Coughlin

“I expected a great effort today. I think defensively and with our special teams, we got it. Offensively we did not – there’s no way to sugarcoat it. A pathetic offensive performance – we didn’t block anybody, we didn’t make any plays, we didn’t create any opportunities for ourselves. I told the players who prepared and gave great effort that I appreciated what they did, and I told those that were obvious they had not, that I felt sorry for them because they’re missing the whole point.” -Coach Tom Coughlin

“Coach Coughlin can’t take any of this blame. Like I said, personally, I won’t allow that. He can’t take any of this blame. Coaches coach and they did a phenomenal job getting us prepared for this. We had a great week of practice. Everything that we saw out there from their offense, we went over with our coaches, defensive coordinator, assistant coaches, so forth and so on, and they did an exceptional job preparing us for today. Coach Coughlin, he’s a coach, but he can’t coach heart, he can’t make a play or have heart, he can’t make a player have passion about this game, and that’s what we were lacking out there today. Like I said, coach can say what he wants, but personally, I won’t allow him to take that because coaches coach and the players play the game.” -S Antrel Rolle

“You go into this game and you know you’re out of the playoffs, but you kind of look forward to the opportunity to compete and go against a good defense and try to go out there and enjoy those three hours of playing football and doing something you love and competing and trying to have some good plays, but it’s not fun when you get dominated like that, when you get beat and you can’t get anything going offensively and obviously struggle and throw interceptions and have bad plays. So that’s not enjoyable and it’s tough to deal with.” -QB Eli Manning

“A good football team came out today.  We didn’t get anything going on the offensive side of the ball.  The defense played really good.  It’s just a game we need to go back and look at film and critique ourselves and try to come out and fight another week.” -WR Hakeem Nicks

Coach Coughlin is correct in regard to blocking. Placing the fact aside that I’m more defense oriented than what I discern “the game plan”/strategy to be. All of the roads to this point of fiasco lead to one thing – an UN versatile offensive line – and to me that is all attributable to the need of an offensive line coach. Even watching this on TV? Failure at fundamental assignments were painfully obvious. Things that don’t require supermen to execute, just mediocre players which all of these guys are, at the very least. This is not something new. It’s been going on for a long time and it’s not fair to really good players who are being deprived of their careers because of some romantic attachment to some guy that can’t get it done. In the past some great Big Play or fluke would occur. The team WINS !! all the faults are ignored. You can do that for a while but it will eventually catch up to you and that’s what has happened. Even when the line was comprised of mostly all good players at their very best they were a good pass protection line – good for the Big Play – and that’s about it. And it’s not because of the guys, it’s how they’re led and taught their assignments according to how the plays are to be executed and what they absolutely have to do and how they react. You can make up excuses for it, blame the guys, say it’s because they’re not playing together etc but the team needs a really good line coach that can show these guys and lead them through games so that they are versatile not just a one dimensional pass protect line. When you’re one dimensional like that it’s easy for the other team to prepare and overwhelm you. Word got around.

Rey Dekker I am pleased to be a part of this art iltoalnatisn/concept. Cup #28 Climactic was in my possession for a mere hour before I added it and a story surrounding it. I believe that the fact that the cup and I had only known one another for fewer than 60 minutes yet could collaborate to create a history in even that brief a contact offers not only a counter-point to the mostly long and storied histories of the other cups but shows that there is a story to be told about everything and everyone. This cup was no exception
