Fantasy 101: Start ‘em or sit ‘em

Posted by Giants.com on October 26, 2013 – 1:43 pm

START

Marques Colston WR Saints, last week: 1 catch. 11 yards

Colston’s past 2 games combined are 3 receptions for 26 yards.  With the Buffalo Bills next on the schedule, who are the second worst defense in the league vs. wide receivers in fantasy football.  Drew Brees should have a field day.  Brees favorite target the past 2 seasons has been tight-end Jimmy graham, but with the recently injured Graham still recovering, Colston could really benefit being “the guy” for at least one week this season.  START

Jordan Reed TE Redskins, last week: 9 receptions,134 receiving yards, TD

Reed has been really heating up these past 2 weeks, catching 13 passes and totaling 192 receiving yards and a touchdown.  In what looks to be a high scoring match-up between the early super bowl favorites in the Denver Broncos, look for this to be one of the highest scoring games of the year.  With two of the most explosive quarterbacks facing off sunday afternoon and with both defenses very vulnerable defending the pass, the scoreboard and stat sheet should be plenty filled by the end of the game.  START

Josh Gordon WR Browns, last week:  2 catches, 21 yards

After Gordon missed the first 2 games of the season due to violations of NFL drug policy, he’s had 27 catches, 450 yards receiving and 2 TD’s in just 5 games.  After having his worst performance of the year last week with 2 receptions and 21 yards, new starting quarterback Jason Cambell will try to come in and mix things up.  WIth a renown down the field arm, Cambell should provide some spark in the play action game and more than likely see Josh Gordon on the other end  START

Maurice Jones-Drew RB Jaguars, last week: 37 yards rushing

Jones-Drew has had the worst start to a season he’s ever gone through while actually playing.  Though he’s use to losing ball games by now, he can’t be use to the level of play he’s been performing at due to the recent blow-outs the Jaguars have been involved in.  It was only a few years ago where Jones-Drew was being drafted 1-5 overall and now he can end up on your waiver wire if you look closely.  With the 17 point heavy favorites in the San Francisco 49ers coming to town, I see the Jacksonville Jaguars and Jones-Drew coming through and making this game.  Therefore, controlling the clock and running the ball!  START

Harry Douglas WR Falcons, last week: 7 receptions, 149 yards, TD

Matt Ryan and Harry Douglas have had on field chemistry throughout both their stays with the Atlanta Falcons.  Primarily as a 3rd option, DOuglas stepped up last week in an a huge way, having 7 catches for 149 yards and a score.  Now that he has eased all fantasy owners to the maximum, start him again this week in Arizona.  With Roddy White still injured, Gonzalez and Douglas are the only two legitimate passing options for the Atlanta Falcons as of now.  START

BENCH

Andy Dalton QB Bengals, last week: 372 passing yards, 3 TD’s

Dalton’s been tearing up his last 2 opponents, throwing 6 Touchdowns and 709 yards passing, there’s arguably nobody playing better in fantasy football at Quarterback.  Though this weekend he will face a very stingy Jets defense.  New York held Tom Brady last week to just 228 yards passing, no touchdowns and interceptions thrown, which was pick six and the deciding factor in the game. BENCH

Lamar Miller RB Dolphins, last week: 43 yards rushing

Miller quite frankly hasn’t done much of anything the whole season, besides 2 games in where he got over 60 yards rushing and touchdown.  Another potential high scoring game could be happening in New England.  With a somewhat healthy Rob Gronkowski and a pissed off Tom Brady from last weeks disappointing lost to the Jets, this could be a deadly combination for the Dolphins secondary and Miami’s running backs.  BENCH

Kyle Rudolph TE Vikings, last week: 3 catches, 27 yards

Rudolph’s 2013 season could be terrible for a few reasons.  FIrst, he has no quarterback to throw him the ball.  Last week vs. Giants, Rudolph had 9 targets and just 3 catches, with the other 6 under-thrown or over-thrown.  Second, they have no run game as of now because of the lack of passing threat, the opponent knows Adrian Peterson is getting the ball.  Though Rudolph had plenty of success vs. Green Bay in the past, I wouldn’t count on anything crazy this weekend.  BENCH

Bills Defense, last week: 2 Int, 2 Sacks, FF, TD

Buffalo’s had a solid season this year on the defensive side of the ball ( 12 interception, 2 touchdowns and 22 sacks) and last week was no different, forcing 3 turnovers and adding on a touchdown.  But when you go face Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints in the Super-Dome, you could be the 85’ Bears, New Orleans is still scoring big and putting up yards on you.  Don’t try and be sneaky this weekend by starting them, others have tried and they all pretty much fail. Your whole weeks match-up could depend on it. BENCH
