Fantasy 101: Week 3 start ‘em or sit ‘em

Posted by Giants.com on September 20, 2013 – 12:29 pm

Fantasy 101 brings you the latest fantasy football news from around the league.

WR Robert Woods, Bills

Last week: 4 REC, 68 YDS

Woods has been productive in his first two weeks in the NFL.  He scored his first touchdown in Week 1 and followed up with four catches for 68 yards the next.  Week by week Woods will try and find his role in the new Buffalo Bills offense with rookie quarterback E.J. Manuel at the helm.  Expect big things in the future for this rookie combo for years to come.  START

QB Matthew Stafford, Lions

Last week: 278 YDS, 2 TDs

Stafford was one the biggest disappointments last year at the quarterback position in fantasy football.  After throwing for 5,000 yards and 41 touchdowns in 2011, the gunslinger from Georgia threw just 20 touchdowns last year with 17 interceptions.  With four touchdowns and only one interception this season, he seems to have found his old rhythm.  START

RB Jacquizz Rodgers, Falcons

Last week: 45 TOT YDS

With Steven Jackson sidelined this weekend vs. Miami, Rodgers will see a big increase in touches this week.  Whether that’s in the passing game or rushing attack, Rodgers will be that X-factor this week. He could potentially be your “guy” for this weekend as the difference maker everyone strives to find. START

TE Tyler Eifert, Benglas

Last week: 66 YDS

The first-round pick from Notre Dame has looked impressive in his first two professional games.  With 113 yards receiving in the past two weeks combined, Eifert will be searching for his first touchdown of his young and promising career this weekend. He’ll be up aagainst a Green Bay Packers secondary which is known for giving up huge plays in the passing game (359 opponent passing yards per game, 31st overall).  START

QB Ben Roethlisberger, Steelers

Last week: 251 YDS

Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers have some problems on the offensive side of the ball, to say the least.  With offensive coordinator Todd Haley, the Steelers will try and pull out all the tricks this Sunday night vs. Chicago.  The Bears were first in the league last year in takeaways and haven’t missed a beat this season.  This is a brutal matchup for a team, such as the Steelers, coming off two devastating losses.  Until it gets a better offensive line, Pittsburgh should have a tough time giving Big Ben time to throw the ball down the field.  BENCH

WR James Jones, Packers

Last week:  178 YDS

Jones had one of the best games of his career last Sunday, hauling in 11 passes for 178 yards.  Just the week before, though, Jones had zero catches.  Now the Packers face one of the top secondaries in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals.  Look for Jones to come back to earth this weekend.  BENCH

RB Matt Forte, Bears

Last week: 88 YDS

Forte has always been a solid starting fantasy running back when healthy.  He has the versatility to run the ball for huge gains but also catch the ball with ease.  However, when running backs go up against the Steelers, it is always a struggle, no matter what year it is.  Don’t expect a huge game from Forte, but rather one that will get you average production at best, which isn’t good enough for me.  BENCH

WR Harry Douglas, Falcons

Last week: 43 YDS

Although the injury to Roddy White has helped Douglas receive some more playing time, he still hasn’t had that breakout game yet for you to justify a start for him.  There’s no doubt he’s good player with great speed and hands, but the next step is to just wait for that particular game to happen. BENCH
