THROWBACK THURSDAY: RUEBEN RANDLE
Whether he was catching, throwing or running the ball, Bastrop High School in Louisiana knew that it could rely on Rueben Randle.
During Randle’s three years at Bastrop, the team went 41-2 and won two state championships. His sophomore and junior seasons, he played wide receiver, catching 69 passes for 1,491 yards and 18 touchdowns. But his senior year, the team tried him out under center. The result was 2,461 passing yards and 20 touchdowns. He was equally as dangerous on the ground, rushing for 683 yards and 12 additional scores.
Randle’s talent was no secret. He was one of the top-ranked recruits in the class of 2008, earning first-team All-USA honors from USA Today and being named a Parade All-American. He was the top-ranked wide receiver in the country by SuperPrep, Rivals.com, Scout.com and ESPN U while Sports Illustrated listed him as No. 2.
He had offers from Alabama, Oklahoma, Auburn, Miami, Notre Dame, and Stanford, among others, but decided to stay in his home state when he committed to LSU on February 4, 2009.
Below are Randle’s high school highlights.
“Anytime you have to heal somebody in your circle, whether it’s a coach or player, whatever it may be, going through a hardship, you always want to do your part to pick them up. If that’s winning a football game or that’s saying a kind word, whatever it may be, you always have to try your best to pick their spirits up. That’s what they did for me, and obviously, I was better for it. Any way I can return the favor or we as a football team can return the favor, we need to jump on doing that.” -DE Justin Tuck
