FIVE GIANTS APPEAR ON ESPN’S #NFLRANK LIST

Over the past week and a half, ESPN’s NFLRank project has been listing the top 100 offensive and 100 defensive players in the league, releasing 10 new players each day until finally reaching No. 1.

Last Friday Hakeem Nicks and Justin Tuck became the first Giants to appear on the list, coming in at No. 52 and No. 56, respectively. Now, as the list comes to an end, three additional Giants have been added, including defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, the team’s highest ranked player, and quarterback Eli Manning, a two-time Super Bowl MVP.

Here’s a look at which Giants were ranked:

Jason Pierre-Paul, Mathias Kiwanuka, Rocky BernardNo. 13. DE Jason Pierre-Paul

“Pierre-Paul disrupted 36.5 drop-backs (sacks + interceptions + passes defended + batted balls) as part of a rush with four or less. Only Jared Allen (48) had more such disruptions.” -ESPN Stats and Information

No. 17. QB Eli Manning

“Manning, who has started 135 consecutive regular-season games, was sacked on a league-low 3.4 percent of his drop-backs in 2012. Right behind him was brother Peyton (3.5 percent).” -ESPN Stats and Information

No. 32. WR Victor Cruz

Victor Cruz“An undrafted free agent out of college, Cruz’s 2,628 yards are the most by any undrafted free agent since the merger in 1970 (despite no receiving yards his first season). Cruz has 15 receiving touchdowns out of the slot over the past two seasons, the most in the NFL.” -ESPN Stats and Information

No. 52. WR Hakeem Nicks

“In 2010 and 2011, Nicks had 155 catches for 2,244 yards and 18 touchdowns. The only other receivers to match or exceed those numbers were Calvin Johnson and Roddy White.” — ESPN Stats & Information

No. 56. DE Justin Tuck

“The Giants defense has averaged a sack on 7.2 percent of opponent drop-backs with Tuck on the field during the past five seasons compared to 5.5 percent of opponent drop-backs with Tuck off the field.” – ESPN Stats & Information

QUOTABLES

“We don’t worry about last year. The season is what it is. We finished 9-7. We didn’t make the playoffs. We understand what we left on the field last year and us understanding that at this point is only going to allow us to get better and if we’re going to have that improvement and that extra motivation, that drive to get better and to make sure we don’t have those let downs. Extremely confident? Yeah. We are extremely confident and I would not take that word back because that’s what we are as a defense and I stand strong by my word. It’s just a matter of us going out there and displaying that. I can sit here and talk until I’m blue in the face, but what speaks for itself is what we actually go out there and put on film.” -S Antrel Rolle
