HAKEEM NICKS RANKED NO. 15 PLAYER IN NFC EAST
Injuries kept Hakeem Nicks out of three games last season, leading to career-lows in receiving yards, touchdowns and yards per catch. But that isn’t enough to overshadow Nicks’ 2,244 receiving yards from 2010-2011, the third-most of any NFL player during that time.
Nicks appeared yesterday in ESPN’s “NFLRank” project, which lists the top 100 offensive and top 100 defensive players in the NFL, earning the No. 56 spot among offensive players.
ESPN NFC East columnist Dan Graziano agrees that Nicks is one of the top players in the league, ranking him the No. 15 player in the division.
“I just love the way this guy operates when he’s right,” Graziano wrote. “He can beat you deep. He can go over the middle. He can use his body to shield the ball from the defender. He can outrun you, outjump you and outfight you for the ball. He locates the ball in traffic before the defenders do. He has great hands. He’s a film-room rat, a perfectionist obsessed with honing every aspect of his technique.”
Nicks is the first Giant to appear on Graziano’s list and comes in one spot ahead of Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson. He moves down from nine spots from his No. 6 ranking a year ago.
“This is an obvious case in which 2012 performance hurt a guy’s ranking,” Graziano wrote. “But Nicks had enough in the bank prior to last season to keep him from falling any further down the list than this.”
Here’s what the top 20 looks like so far:
11. Jason Peters, T, Eagles
12. Sean Lee, LB, Cowboys
13. Trent Williams, T, Redskins
14. Evan Mathis, G, Eagles
15. Hakeem Nicks, WR, Giants
16. DeSean Jackson, WR, Eagles
17. Anthony Spencer, DE, Cowboys
18. London Fletcher, LB, Redskins
19. Brian Orakpo, LB, Redskins
20. Jason Hatcher, DL, Cowboys
“The message is this. There’s two practices, a game, look at the tape and cut to 53. That’s where we are. If you’re going to make a move, if you’re going to show something, someone who is looking to make our team that hasn’t made it before, I’d say that you need to get about the business of doing it. It’s time. There’s not a lot of time, but what opportunity you get to step on the field Thursday night, I’m hoping for your benefit that it’s a good one.” -coach Tom Coughlin
