HERZLICH VS. CONNOR RANKED THE NO. 9 POSITION BATTLE IN THE NFC
NFL.com’s Gregg Rosenthal compiled a list of the NFC’s top position battles on Wednesday, ranking the Giants middle linebacker competition between March Herzlich and Dan Connor at No.9.
“There isn’t any reason to believe Herzlich won’t win this job,” said Rosenthal. “The Giants seem very confident in him.”
Herzlich has been taking the majority of the first team snaps in camp while Connor, a first-year Giant who has previously played for the Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys, has been running with the twos.
“There’s no jobs given out,” Connor said. “The players who’ve been around for a while and are older, they’re looking to replace them, and the younger guys are hungry. It’s always competition. The coaches create an environment where you know that, if I work hard and I produce, they’ll play me. No one is ever comfortable with a job. This linebacker position in particular, it’s an open job, anyone can go for it. It’s just who will excel and make plays.”
All four NFC East teams were listed, with the Eagles’ quarterback competition between Michael Vick and Nick Foles listed at No. 1. The Redskins’ tight end battle comes in at No. 10 while the Cowboys strong-side linebacker competition is listed at No. 18.

I feel like I’m reborn again, all of the guys are accepting me with open arms like one of those lost brothers that finally came back home. I’m having a blast this offseason, well, not offseason anymore, this training camp.” -Aaron Ross
