ESPN’S JAWORSKI RANKS ELI MANNING NO. 8 ON QB COUNTDOWN

NFL analyst Ron Jaworski continued his evaluation of each starting quarterback around the league, ranking Eli Manning No. 8, one spot ahead of Houston’s Matt Schaub. Coming off his second Super Bowl victory, Manning was ranked No. 5 a year ago.

“After a 2012 season in which he was not quite as consistent in some areas and other quarterbacks improved, I have dropped Manning to No. 8. But there’s no question he remains one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL, capable of big-time throws in critical situations,” Jaworski said.

“While Manning is not No. 1 on my board, there’s no question as he enters his 10th NFL season, he’s a high-level quarterback with all the skills I look for. Manning plays the position the way it needs to be played to be successful. It starts from the pocket. I talked last year about Manning’s improvement in progression reading. One area he doesn’t get enough credit is the pre-snap phase of the game.”

Jaworski added: “In this era of defensive innovation and evolving and challenging schemes, the ability to control the game at the line of scrimmage is a critical attribute. Manning is outstanding at that.

“Manning has reached the point in his career where we no longer need to discuss his play on an annual basis. He’s a steady, consistent, top-level NFL quarterback. He’s smart, he’s aware, and he can handle a high volume of offense. There are not many better quarterbacks than Eli Manning.”

With the remaining top seven being unveiled in the coming days, here’s a look at the countdown as it currently stands:

No. 32 Matt Flynn
No. 31 Jake Locker

No. 30 Kevin Kolb
No. 29 Chad Henne
No. 28 Mark Sanchez
No. 27 Christian Ponder
No. 26 Brandon Weeden
No. 25 Michael Vick
No. 24 Ryan Tannehill
No. 23 Carson Palmer
No. 22 Sam Bradford
No. 21 Josh Freeman

No. 20 Alex Smith
No. 19 Andy Dalton
No. 18 Cam Newton
No. 17 Philip Rivers
No. 16 Matthew Stafford
No. 15 Tony Romo
No. 14 Jay Cutler
No. 13 Robert Griffin III
No. 12 Russell Wilson
No. 11 Colin Kaepernick

No. 10 Andrew Luck
No. 9 Matt Schaub
No. 8 Eli Manning

No, I am sorry. Big Ben and Matty Ice are simply not better quarterbacks than Eli. He gets no R E S P E C T!

As long as Eli is above Romo, RG III and Vick its all good, Eli is still gonna be top QB for the NFC East.

Jaws is the biggest turd. He could not wait to drop Eli a few places. Eli has silenced him a bit now thanks to his 2SBMVPs, but Jaworski was one of the first in line to give Eli crap about his supposed “inconsistency”.

I am ok with where they ranked him. I would like to see Maatt “who has not won anything” Ryan ranked behind Eli. He is definitely a top flight QB and not a one trick pony gadget QB like a Cam Newton, Kapernick, RGIII or Wilson. When they start winning championships…let’s talk.

There is no way Big Ben is ranked above Eli. I think they are forgetting another important stat that is overlooked and that is consecutive games played. How can you be a top QB if you can’t make it through an entire season?

  6. By Jim on Jul 16, 2013 | Reply

Joe Flucko, Ben Rapelisberger, and Matty “Just won my first playoff game a year ago” Ryan all ahead of a two time SB MVP. I don’t know Jaws sounds like your drinking a tall glass of haterade.

Eli is our guy. I’ll bet if you asked any Atlanta fan TRUTHFULLY They’d pick him too!

    MATTY ICE BETTER THAN ELI?

    HAHAHHAHAHAHHA yea right.

  9. By silder on Jul 17, 2013 | Reply

This guy Jaws never won the big one. Eli is a NFC East QB so of course he is hating.

If Eli and the Gaints win the Super bowl he is no.1. If not, who cares?

  11. By siennaLilo on Jul 17, 2013 | Reply

For a 2x SB MVP, Eli at 8 is downright INSULTING. The fact that more Giants fans on here aren’t outraged tells much of the story. Get. A. Clue. Jaws is just some talking head who could never win the big one, but this kind of nonsense from ESPN has to stop. Enough already.

Eli Manning is simply the best Giant QB to ever take a snap…no offense Mr. Sims…and rarely do the Giants as a team get any respect. When Big Blue won against an undefeated Patriots team, it was a fluke. Let’s be honest, the game was dominated by the G-men. Then they beat them AGAIN. Fluke, they said…they said that the Pats would eat them for lunch. Uh huh. Anywho, I got a bit off topic, but Eli Manning has more than earned his respect and honestly should be considered a top 5 QB in the league. How can anyone argue a two-time SB MVP? Jaws? Dude, really?? Big Ben is good and so is Matt Ryan. They’re both really good QBs, but better than Easy E? Hardly. The man doesn’t miss games and his stats and accolades speak for themselves. I will say that Mr. Manning is ranked above Tony Romo and I am definitely happy about that. Sorry, Tony, but you’re a choke artist.

This is enraging to me big ben and average joe and matty ice are better then eli wow before last season average joe wasn’t even a top 15 qb so he wins one superbowl and now he is elite it took eli two superbowls and a few records broken before he got that status this is the correct top 10 peyton manning, tom brady, aaron rodgers, eli manning, drew brees, big ben, matty ice, rg3,maybe joe flacco, andrew luck when average joe chokes next season and eli wins the superbowl eli might finally get the respect he deserves watch broncos vs giants superbowl

Everyone that isn’t a hater knows this eli is still underated

  15. By Daniel on Jul 17, 2013 | Reply

simply dumb to not put Eli in top 5

  16. By John on Jul 21, 2013 | Reply

While I think that if we started Kurt Warner when we were 6 and 2 back when Eli started, and I feel that we would have won the Super Bowl that year had we done so, Eli has lived up to the expectations. I am very pleased with what he has done for our club and could care less what Jaws ranks him. Ranks don’t win Superbowls, Results do. Just that simple. This man plays his hardest in clutch situations when everything is on the line, so what else could you ask for! The only thing we need this year is another running back. Losing Bradshaw rids of us from drama but I am uncertain if Mr Wilson can fit the bill required to make to the big game in February of 2014.

First thing first…..Eli manning is the best qb in the league…..better than Ben…better than Bree’s ..better than Brady….way better than Rogers…..way better than flacco…Ryan is not in the conversation….And when he faces his brother in this years Superbowl..Eli will have three rings and all the haters can shut there mouth!!!!..Eli stopped Brady from getting 5 rings…..and he’s ranked number8…lmaooooooooo
