SPOTLIGHT:

Rookie Blog: CB Jayron Hosley

Posted by Giants.com on November 7, 2012 – 4:28 pm

Cornerback Jayron Hosley was drafted by the New York Giants in the third round this past April. Throughout the season, the Virginia Tech product and Florida native provides an inside look into his journey of making it in the NFL. This week’s post begins with the Giants’ 24-20 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers at home where Hosley recorded a tackle and forced a fumble early in the game.

It wasn’t our best performance or my best performance. We really started off strong early on. I was hyped and ready for my first time playing the Steelers. I have much respect for those guys.

Toward the end of the game, I feel like I could have been a little more aware, just like with the penalty. Throughout the game, I felt like it was a decent game, but we lost. That overwhelms everything as far as how I view the game and myself. It doesn’t matter. It’s all about the win. I just want to do my part and help my team. Like that last third down catch, I put that on me. Like I say, you’ve got to man up. I have to come through for my team on a third down like that. That was a key part of the game. We’ve got to make it happen. We’ve got to make plays. If coach puts that trust in you to put you out there, you’ve got to hold it down.

We’re playing November ball now, and the coaches are definitely expecting a lot out of me. They expect me to grow up each week and progress because each week there is something new that you can learn and pick up and carry on to the next weekend. You have to step your game up. Every week is about stepping your game up, being more aware, and playing to the level of your teammates. I’m a first-year guy so I’m still learning. I’m trying to stay green. You never want to feel complacent. I’m just trying to stay green and keep working.

Now it’s on to the next one. This is the first time in a while that we’re heading into the week coming off a loss. We’ve got to get it turned up. We’ve got to come in this week focused and everybody hitting on all cylinders, everybody on their keys, and just bring that energy level up that coach preaches. It’s got to be a high energy week. We’ve got to be focused and just know our assignments and prepare ourselves each day.

We’re still in a race right now. We’ve got to approach it like that. Each week you can put yourself in the hole or you can progress. We’re shooting for the playoffs, but we’ve got to take it one game at a time. Each week is as important as the last.
