Cornerback Jayron Hosley was drafted by the New York Giants in the third round this past April. Throughout the season, the Virginia Tech product and Florida native will provide an inside look into his journey of making it in the NFL. This week’s post begins with Jayron recovering the late fumble forced by Chase Blackburn that all but sealed the Giants’ Week 7 victory over the Redskins.
We were in a defensive scheme to protect deep and kind of force them to throw short because we knew it was a crucial point in the game and they needed a score and to put points on the board. So we were looking for them to take a deep shot. Santana Moss came on a sort of under route right in front of Chase, who was in the middle. I saw him coming, which I’m letting that go because I’m trying to stay high. They ended up throwing to him and Chase made the tackle and stripped it out. I was right behind him at the time.
Once I saw the ball come out, it was me and another Redskin. I think he was on the ground getting up. I was like, shoot, I have to get it. I jumped and stretched out for it as far as I could and tried to just scoop it in. Then my teammates, Prince Amukamara and the defensive backs and those guys, came in and protected me. It’s a good feeling. It was one of those hard-fought games. It’s a sigh of relief. It’s kind of like we can breathe now. They came out ready to play.
It was good for our side of the ball to come through after giving up the touchdown on the drive before. All I heard coming on the sideline after that was, hey, we have the best quarterback in the league, don’t worry. They came through on Eli Manning’s touchdown to Victor Cruz. I was sitting down on the bench on that play. I actually didn’t see when the play first started, but I caught it right before he caught the pass. I saw him pulling away from the defenders. Once he caught it, I was like we can breathe for a second because it was tough giving up the touchdown before.
Now we’re getting ready for another division opponent – the Dallas Cowboys. We know what we have to do. We know what to expect. They have a talented offense. It’s time to prepare for another good quarterback. All we have to do is basically the same as the first time we played them, but we just have to tighten up on some things. It’s time to go back to the drawing board and just play disciplined ball.
