Shurmur spent 10 seasons in the NFC East with the Philadelphia Eagles from 1999-2008. He began as a tight ends coach before serving as the quarterbacks coach for seven years. So the Giants are no strangers to him, especially Eli Manning.
He was asked about the Giants’ quarterback during a conference call yesterday with local reporters.
“Eli, heck, I have a great deal of respect for Eli,” said Shurmur, who was offensive coordinator of the Rams before joining the Browns last season. “When I was in Philly, I was involved in over 20 of these games against the Giants. At any point in the game, Eli can get hot, and he has the confidence to lead his team to victory. I’m sure the guys in the huddle with him know that. You have to play them all the way out, and it’s very important that you keep trying to get pressure on him because, regardless of the quarterback, that’s the best way to disrupt them.”
