When the Buc DB stepped on his heel and it took him a while to get to his feet, I thought we had lost another starter to injury yesterday. We had already lost Hixon, Bradshaw, and Diehl. Then, when he made his next catch (over the middle) I didn't even know he was back in the game. That's when I realized this was a gutty performance for Hakeem. Not that he doen't play tough all the time. He was just extra tough yesterday, and we needed it to get back into the game after the team's poor first half play (especially Eli.)
But, there was a lot of good play yesterday that helped us back into the game and finally win it. More often than not, our D starts things off. First, while Eli and the O were giving away points and not scoring points in the first half, the D kept us close, kept us in it. Then, they come up with an INT, and that begins the change in momentum. So, the D gets the first nod for good play.
Cruz played a good game for all four quarters, despite being held and double-teamed often.
In the second half, Eli came out firing, which was good because we can't win when he's throwing 3 INT's in one half. So, he gets a good play for the second half, with several of his passes thrown perfectly.
Of course, Nicks gets a big nod for his good play and I think he should be player of the week.
Nonetheless, the player I think we needed to step up the most (and he did) was Andre Brown. Who's this #35? Where has he been? I haven't heard the extent of Bradshaw's neck injury yet, but even with a healthy Bradshaw, we need 2 good running backs to carry us through the season. At least for one week, we found that player in Andre Brown. I hope he can continue his good play. (And, if Bradshaw can't play, then we need another RB to step up and help Brown.)
Finally, if Manning and Brown and the WRs (and even our new TE!) had good games, then that means our O line played well - at least in the second half. Losing Diehl took a while to figure out, but the O line gets a nod for second half good play, too.
The new week is always better after a win!
