Cornerback Jayron Hosley was drafted by the New York Giants in the third round this past April. Each week, the Virginia Tech alum and Florida native will provide an inside look at his journey of making it in the NFL. This week’s post begins with Hosley’s first game in the NFL last Wednesday against the Dallas Cowboys.
Wednesday night was what I had been working toward for a long time now. It was finally here, emotions were up, but I prepared like it was a regular game, like any other game. On game day, I just went over my playbook. We had our meetings in the morning like our regular routine.
I got a little foot rub from the trainers, ate my pregame meal, and then it was just getting prepared at the stadium. I made sure I was focused and going over my keys and things like that to be ready for the game.
And then the wait began. The hardest part about night games is the waiting. But the game clock kept getting closer and closer to kickoff, and then it was time to hit the field for intros. The fans, the smoke and the fog, it was crazy. All I saw were all the flashes of light. Like you see on TV, all the cameras were flashing in the stadium. It was definitely that NFL feeling – that feeling of ‘I’m finally here.’
When I was out there on the field, it was the same thing — ‘I’m here.’ But I couldn’t get too caught up in the moment. I had to focus in and key on what I had to do and execute. It was definitely exciting, but at the same time, you have to snap into it real quick.
