Hixon, Rivers enjoying fresh starts
Posted by on August 19, 2012 – 12:47 amOK, so maybe Domenik Hixon’s 4-yard catch on Saturday night wasn’t as spectacular as his acrobatic touchdown almost a year ago. But for it being the first one since tearing his ACL, it’s just as sweet to him.
“It felt great,” said Hixon, who caught his only pass early in the second quarter. “I just feel blessed and I’m having a lot of fun. You’re also playing against a team that you see in your area, a quality team. The energy was up tonight.”
Hixon suffered his second consecutive season-ending knee injury last September on a 22-yard touchdown reception for the highlight reels against the Rams. He missed the preseason opener last week with a tight hamstring, making the Jets game his first one back.
Also encouraged by his continued fresh start was linebacker Keith Rivers, who has started both preseason games in place of injured Michael Boley. Rivers, who missed all of 2011 due to injury, brought it against the Jets, tying Mathias Kiwanuka with a game-high five total tackles.
He was especially impressive against the run, once chasing down Jets running back Shonn Greene behind the line of scrimmage for a loss in the second quarter. He was also part of the Jets’ failed fourth down conversion when he and defensive tackle Rocky Bernard stonewalled running back John Conner for no gain.
“We just went back to the drawing board after week one and just executed the plays the way we know how to play them,” Rivers said. “The second game, guys got a better feel for the game and guys were just working hard. Guys on the back end held the coverage and guys up front, we gave them enough to get to them.”
Thank God and S/O to all the the giant fans! Thanks for your support… Had a blast tonight! #Blessed—

Nice take. I watched most of that game, and alyaws thought Andy was a strange playcaller. That’s pretty bad not giving it to McCoy at all on the goaline, I should give him a call myself since McCoy is on one of my fantasy teams! I found it interesting that Eli was going after Nnamdi so much. Maybe he’s not adjusted to Philly’s scheme, but I haven’t seen him make that many mistakes in one game in his last three years in Oakland
